Me, pretending to be a cute college person. |
Acting like I am stressed with all my homework. (Really I just stacked all my books up. It was fun.) |
Things I have learned in the first few weeks as a college freshman:
(In no particular order)
1. Conversation with all other freshmen always started out with:
1. What is your name? 2. Where are you from? 3. What is your major?
Well, after all those questions have been asked and answered (by both parties) you have to ask about other things... like real people questions... Then if you have things in common then perhaps you can be friends... Or it just gets really awkward... (notice all the awkward ellipsis I used in this paragraph.)
3. You will meet a lot of people in your major and in your roommate's major.
4. It was nice that I did not sign up for all the things I thought I could do because now I have a chance to find out how busy I'll be before I cry because I'm so busy. :)
5. I found I study best in a really quiet and empty room. Mostly I need a room with no people because with people I am interested in their conversations and just general people watching.
6. I wish I had studied music theory a bit more (and remembered it) because now I am kinda learning basic stuff and it is "hard" to remember and process with all the other information I am learning.
7. Orchestra is better the second week because the first you are probably just tired because it was the first day of classes.
8. If you wait long enough you can find many homeschoolers and Whovians by just having a standard conversation.
9. Don't bring an old laptop because the battery will die before classes are over and you will be annoyed. Buy a new computer and stick to paper and a pencil before that.
10. Don't put off doing your homework because you want to write a blog post... (yes, I should be doing some more homework right now.)
11. It is sad when you have no mail in you mail box. :(
12. Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner is slightly weird if there is no one you know in the cafeteria, but lots of fun if there is even one person you know.
13. Theological discussions with a random guy from a random church at the campus church fair are interesting... Especially if he disagrees very strongly with your point after he asks you a question. (No offense to random guy or his church, but I do not plan on attending that church...)
14. There is an art to answering the professors questions in class. Not so much that he or she says "let someone else talk" and not so little that he or she feels the need to call on you.
15. Not all the food in the cafeteria is good, but you don't have to eat it. So don't and eat ice cream and drink tea.
So glad college is teaching you the fine art of discussion ;) (you forgot point 16 about how much you miss your puppy dog and your mama cause they both love you so very muchly!)
ReplyDeleteOK, for some odd reason this post of yours showed up in my blog feed in late October instead of early September. I think I should just check up on your blog everyone once in a while, as opposed to trusting the blog-feed-thingy, which I know has failed in the past.
ReplyDeleteAnywhoo, I really enjoyed reading what you've been up to (even though I read it two months later), and I thought this post was funny, interesting, AND cool. Maybe I should go back and find a part of it that's inspiring...
;)
Ha! Thanks!
DeleteI think I need to write a new post soon... Maybe it will be inspiring. :)
